Is luxury vinyl flooring suitable if you have pets?

Standard luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile flooring work well for pet owners, but LVP and LVT designed with pets in mind perform even better. These top brands, which are also ideal for active households, are usually waterproof. In addition, Mohawk's SolidTech collection is backed by an All Pet Protection Warranty that covers 'all pets, all accidents, all the time.' Hillside Floor Covering in Puyallup, Washington, offers flooring by Mohawk and much more.

Wear layer

Luxury vinyl flooring is made up of four layers. The wear layer keeps pet paws from scratching the wood, stone, or ceramic design. It also provides slip resistance to padded paws. Further, this tough surface layer resists pet stains, and muddy paw prints are wiped away in no time. A 20-mil wear layer is best for pet-friendly homes or any home that expects high foot traffic. The core layer, which is protected by the backing layer, is situated beneath the design layer.

Installation

Glue-down and loose-lay luxury vinyl are available, but the flooring is most commonly designed for floating floor installation. Since planks and tiles interlock at the edges, the floor does not need to be fastened to a subfloor. Instead, it floats above the subfloor. Therefore, LVP and LVT can be installed on top of cement slabs and existing hard surface flooring. If a plank or tile becomes damaged, it can easily be replaced.
